Most people want a friendly, low-key, well-behaved dog to adopt. While many German Shepherd Dogs can be friendly, most need daily leadership work, attention work, and hard exercise from their families to behave as we all want them to behave. There is nothing wrong with this - those are some of the attributes you get that make for a good GSD. However, it's nice to find a lower-key, well-behaved GSDs right off the bat when you want to adopt, and that isn't always easy in this breed.
But - if that lower-key, friendly dog is the kind of dog you love, the kind of dog you want, a dog who has GSD attributes, but will be happy to just be with you and be your gentle companion, you've hit the jackpot with this dog!
Meet Holling! Holling is one of the sweetest dogs we've met in awhile. He's very friendly with people and enjoys being gently petted or just spoken to nicely. This dog loves 2-way communication (as most GSDs do), and he thrives on that kind of attention from his people. And yet, Holling is a senior boy whose exercise requirements are minimal - daily leash walks and following you around the house and fenced yard as you do your chores, gardening, or other activities would fulfill his exercise requirements.
Holling has been fine with people he's met while with us. He tends to ignore cats, which is a big plus! He prefers to be an only-dog, or to live with and be around friendly but quieter dogs that won't bounce in his face.
It's beyond us why anybody would not ask to meet this dog. He's really such a wonderful dog, he graces the life of anybody he comes into contact with!
In summation, Holling has many virtues. He is a dog who will hand his heart over to you very quickly. He will be your gentle snuggle boy, your best quiet friend. Holling is looking for that special person for his GSD heart to love, in that wonderful low-key way. Are you that person he's looking for?
