My Story
HOGAN HAS BEEN ADOPTED AND IS RESIDING WITH HIS NEW FAMILY IN TAUNTON, MA!
This darling fellow was picked up as a stray by the Dog Warden on 11/3/09.
On 11/13/09, Hogan weighed 40.9 lbs. and was estimated at 6 mths of age. His veterinary examination revealed that he was infested with fatal intestinal parasites, but these hookworms were quickly eliminated with a 3-day protocol of Panacur. Additionally, 500 mg of Cephalexin was prescribed twice a day for a 10-day period to arrest the infection indicated by his 103.5 temperature. However, within 5 days, his infection manifested itself with nasal mucous; and he was switched to 250 mg of Clavamox twice a day for 10 days.
With restoration of his health, Hogan weighs 46 lbs. Standing 20" tall (at the top of his shoulders) with a torso measuring 18" long (from the base of his neck to the base of his friendly tail), Hogan is fully grown and unlikely to exceed 50 lbs. with continued steady nutrition. He is the perfect age and perfect size for a family dog--past the stage of puppy hyperactivity and chewing and small enough to snuggle up next to his humans on a cold winter evening. Actually, Hogan thinks he is even smaller than he is. And Hogan is very quiet--no obnoxious barking behavior from this wonderful boy.
Even though Hogan is almost always accepting of and gently playful with other dogs, if some of the male dogs occasionally decide to "whip his butt", Hogan will stand his ground. Although his response is usually to retreat, he would be more suitable for a home with female dogs or submissive male dogs. Hogan is very friendly toward cats, vigorously wagging his tail when any of them rub up against him and letting it go at that with such encounters. And, of course, this sweet boy is very affectionate with his people (which seems to include every human he meets). He adores everybody and will sit endlessly if he is getting his head rubbed.
Obedience training is always recommended for bonding and safety's sake for any new canine addition to a family, and this smart boy should make an excellent student. He immediately accepted his name and consistently comes quickly--no matter what he's doing--when called. He is very calm, well mannered, and eager to please and is looking for a family with the same qualities. This gentle-natured boy undoubtedly would enjoy the companionship of gentle, elementary school aged human siblings in his adoptive family. Participating in Hogan's training classes would be an excellent forum for teaching children the virtues of non-drug, non-sex related activities for recreation, as well as for forming a strong basis for bonding with their new canine family member.
Having been started on heartworm preventative, vaccinated, and neutered, Hogan is ready to join a permanent family to share his life, love, fun, and happy memories for many years to come.
