My Story

Hello, I'm Hershey! I'm a 5 year old Chihuahua/Rat Terrier mix weighing in at 18 lbs. and I'm just as sweet as my name! I'm a little shy at first, but give me a tennis ball or a sock and you'll see my tail wagging in no time. I love to play, but I also love quiet time, cuddling up close to those I trust. I may take a little while to warm up, but once I do, I promise to be the sweetest, most gentle friend you've ever had. I've got a lot of love to give, and I'm just waiting for the right person to share it with. Sadly, some life changing events happened in my previous home that had my owners reaching out for help in finding me and my brother a new home where we can run and play like we we used to. Although it was sad leaving them, I trust that there are wonderful new adventures ahead and I can't wait to see what is in store for me. I love kids and other dogs but it may be best if I find a home with no cats. I come fully UTD on my vaccinations, microchipped, HW negative and neutered. Adopting me means gaining a loyal companion who will cherish every moment we spend together. This dog is ready for his forever home! PLEASE READ BELOW: If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting, the first step is to please visit our website to complete an application and read all of our FAQs: https://www.takepawsrescue.org/adopt **Please do not use the "Introduce Yourself" feature. The information needed to determine if you might be a match for one of our animals can only be found on our application. An inquiry, question, or introduction through Petfinder is NOT an application. All known details about our animals are posted on their profile and updated daily. Other info would be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the number of introductions/questions received (hundreds daily) we ask you submit an application on our website (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue). The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention. Please see our website for more information. 2022 Adoption Fee Scale for non-benefactor animals: Puppies under 12 months - $350 Dogs over 12 months - $250 *Take Paws Rescue saves dogs from high-kill shelters in Southeast Louisiana, owner surrenders, and discarded dogs with uncertain futures. All of our animals live in foster homes where they are socialized, and well cared for. An application will be required to make sure it’s the perfect match! For additional information, including the adoption process and our adoption fee scale for all our adoptable pets, see our FAQs page: https://www.takepawsrescue.org/faq *Any breed labels used by Take Paws Rescue, its employees/volunteers, or on vet records provided cannot be guaranteed. Breed labels are given based on information obtained during intake and/or best guesses based on appearance and/or temperament of the dogs and Take Paws Rescue gives no assurance to the accuracy of these labels. Labels are necessary for postings to many animal networking sites, such as Pet Finder, and are no way a guarantee. Additionally, exact age and potential size cannot be guaranteed.
