My Story

All pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered when appropriate. Please check here for updated adoption hours. A bit about me: Hera was brought into Manhattan ACC by the NYPD after someone dropped her off at the precinct with no information. The officers reported that Hera was very friendly and social. My ideal home: While we don't have a history on Hera, we do know she's an enthusiastic and social dog who will thrive with daily mental and physical activities. To keep her happily engaged and exercised, we recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and fun hide-and-seek games, along with plenty of physical exercise. With the right activities, Hera's energy and enthusiasm will be positively directed! Good with other pets? At the shelter, Hera was tense with other dogs when she greeted them through a gate during her assessments. We always suggest slow introductions with resident pets, and we offer a 2-week trial adoption to help you see if Hera is a good fit with your family. Since ACC doesn't test with cats, we're not sure how she'd do with feline friends, but we can help you with tips and advice! Good with kids? We noticed that Hera dislikes being approached when she has a toy in her possession. We highly recommend that Hera goes to an adult only home without young children under 13. How is my health? Hera is medically overweight, and while there's a lot of her to love, we recommend some weight loss for Hera. How are my leash manners? Hera pulls mildly on the leash. She is nonreactive to humans and dogs on walks. What is my behavior assessment? Hera has been assessed as a Level 3 dog. She would do best in a household that has experience with dogs that have anxiety and resource guarding behaviors. She would thrive in a patient adult only household that allows her to decompress at her own pace. It's important to let Hera warm up at her own pace and never force her to interact with new people. With patience and understanding, she'll make a wonderful companion. Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: Brown Weight: 70.5lbs Age: 5yrs 2mths 3wks
