It is recommended that any potential adopters research the Catahoula breed and have some understanding of it. Henry came into rescue when we were notified of a stray dog that had been seen for awhile now, the people living nearby didn’t know what to do or how to catch him. So, we sent out our trapper and all it took was a little chicken and this boy happily walked right into the trap. Once in there the trapper called immediately noticing an injury to his leg. It was bad… really bad. We called the vet and they fit us in next day. His leg needed to come off, but he was too malnourished to have the surgery just yet. So, the wound was cleaned, meds were sent home, and he went to a wonderful foster home to put on some weight and await surgery. Fast forward and after a month in rescue this boy is healthy, happy and thriving! He had his leg removed on May 30th and has recovered nicely from it; in fact, we don’t know that he even realizes its gone. A little more about Henry.... He is loving and affectionate and definitely wants to be a lap/furniture dog! He has shown little interest in toys so far, and would rather hang out with his human, especially if he can be in their lap. Henry will talk your ear off and sing you the blues. Calling him vocal is an understatement. He is adventurous! His nose is all Catahoula, and he sniffs the air to see what is out there. His determination to follow a scent in the air is unmatched, and being a tri-pawd will not stop him from following the scent with eagerness. He loves car rides, because those lead to adventure and more people from which he can get love and attention. He is crate trained, house broke, he gets along with humans of all sizes as well as other dogs and even cats! I mean....he is kind of the perfect dog. It is amazing how far this boy has come from when we he was found and in such horrible shape. And through it all, he still loves people. Henry requires a 6ft fenced yard, he is very determined to be with people and LOVES adventures a 6ft fence will ensure he doesn't go on any by himself or get out to say hello to just anyone he sees. Henry is neutered, dewormed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations and treated for fleas. If you are interested in meeting Henry, you will need to travel to Oakville for the meet. Henry's adoption fee is $300. An approved application and an appointment is required.
