My Story

Meet Hector the Tri-Pawd. How did he become a tri-pawd dog? It’s a mystery. Hector was found dodging traffic on a busy highway in the Texas Panhandle. Luckily, he is pretty fast with just 3 legs. In fact, you could say that Hector the Tri-Pawd is a lucky dog because on this day he was noticed by a rescuer who followed him around until she could catch him. Did I mention he is fast? Hector’s rescuer took him to several local businesses and they all recognized him. They said he has been running loose on the streets for weeks, abandoned by his previous owner. His rescuer said “Never again!” and swept Hector off to travel all over the Panhandle with her while she started the search for his new furever family. Hector is about 3 years old, up to date on his shots, neutered, and he is missing his left rear leg. That doesn’t get him down, though. Hector bounces around as if he hasn’t a care in the world, and we want that to be true for him. Hector likes kids and other dogs, but cats would be on a case by case basis. He has a loving personality, and is happy to sit on your lap or follow you around the house. Hector enjoys hanging out with the other dogs, eating good food, and belly rubs. He particularly appreciates a comfortable dog bed. Hector is also a good traveler, and he is happy to go shopping with his family and never complains that he is bored. Hector is house trained to use a doggy door in his foster home. However, the vet who updated all his vaccinations identified that the injury that caused him to loose his leg also pinched a nerve that prevents Hector from having complete control of his bladder and bowels. This means that he does his best to go outside to potty, but his foster reports that he gets so excited to greet her or her guests when they arrive that he accidentally leaves a small mess on the floor. The foster reports that this has improved as Hector has received good nutrition and has become more comfortable in the home, so it might be possible to overcome the problem eventually. Meanwhile, belly bands and doggie diapers make Hector’s disability easier to deal with from a practical standpoint. Hector would be a wonderful addition to any home, and he is ready to have a forever family who will not make him stay outside, alone, in the cold and bad weather. Hector hopes his real forever family will not abandon him as the last one did. If you think you might be the perfect family for Hector, please fill out the application located at the following link and a volunteer will reach out to coordinate a meet and greet with this wonderful little guy! https://form.jotform.com/210400377853148
