My Story

I'm Heather, a beautiful tri-colored female approximately one year old. I have lots and lots of energy and lots of love to give, but I do have some special needs. Several of my previous "owners" weren’t very nice to me. They chased me, hit me and didn’t feed me very well and their meanness made me develop some bad habits. Needless to say, with my past traumas and mistreatment, I still have anxiety about people and life. I am a bit afraid of some people (mostly men) and I might cower from you if you reach for me, but if I am on a leash I am much more confident. I also tend to talk (bark) a lot (mean people chased me and punished me when I barked so I will probably run from you if you want me to stop barking and be quiet), but I am improving. Since I wasn’t well fed in the past I also have some food aggression tendencies at times, but there are ways to help me overcome this. The good news is that I have a sweet nature and can’t get enough petting and love if you will just be patient and allow me to settle down. I am fascinated by cats and gentle with them, but for some reason they don’t like me and they hiss at me (plus my foster Mom won’t let me play with them:) I get along well with other dogs and like to romp and play with them and I love to go for walks. I have been to obedience school and I know lots of commands, which I usually respond well to. I need to find very special parents who are patient, kind, willing to love me for the rest of my life and who will give me the time I need to begin trusting people again. Your family also should not have anyone under 18 living at home because I don’t trust myself around kids right now. I promise I’ll make you a good pet, I just need some special TLC, but everybody tells me I’m worth it. Heather is spayed, heartworm negative, current on shots and waiting on that special home she so deserves.
