My Story

Hazim is a resilient four-year-old Canaan mix with a remarkable journey. Rescued from the war-torn West Bank, Hazim was one of 80 dogs who undertook a harrowing journey over several days and multiple plane trips to find safety. He arrived in the Cincinnati area with a group of seven other dogs, where his foster family anxiously awaited his arrival amidst increasing danger in his homeland. Since arriving in his foster home, Hazim has been adjusting to a life of safety and comfort. He is a quick learner and has been making great strides in his new environment. Hazim has bonded well with the two resident dogs, who are seasoned fosters, providing him with stable companionship. New fur friends should be confident and secure to help Hazim continue to grow. Hazim excels in his crate and consistently uses the restroom outside. While he is still getting used to leash walking, he sometimes prefers the comfort of a cozy spot indoors. Hazim has a particular fondness for clean blankets, often choosing the blanket basket as his preferred resting place. Despite his brave demeanor, Hazim carries some trauma from his past. Thunderstorms and fireworks trigger his fears, leading him to bark to express his discomfort. He also has an extreme dislike for water, a response to negative experiences in his past. With continued patience and love, Hazim is sure to become an amazing dog for a future adopter who understands his past and is committed to helping him thrive.
