My Story

Love medium sized dogs? Hazel may be just the right fit! At just 40lbs, Hazel is a small mix taken in from the streets by a local shelter. This sweet girl was a hit from day one with the staff, getting along with EVERY pup in the shelter! She loves to play with her furry friends. She has become a favorite at the Hillcrest Dog Spot where she never seems to get tired of playing! She does ask every cat she meets if they want to play too, but so far they have all said no, which hurts her feelings, but she doesn't complain. Hazel is stuck like glue to the people she loves and will cuddle you and listen to all of your problems. She is happy to lay on the couch and watch TV all evening if you want, but you may have to shield her eyes during scary movies so she doesn't have nightmares! The reason this sweet girl has not found her new home yet is that she can be very nervous when meeting strangers, particularly men. She doesn't bite or nip in these situations, just barks....a lot. We are working with her to curb this behavior which likely developed during her time as a stray as a defensive mechanism. It will take time, but we are committed to teaching her that not all people are mean and sometimes it's ok to trust! Hazel is going to be the most loving and amazing addition to someone's family, especially if they are willing to go slow with introductions to friends and family members. Hazel is heartworm negative, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. Her adoption fee is $200. CARE's adoptable pets are specifically evaluated and selected to be family and companion animals. We place them in foster homes where they live in the home environment and become part of the family while awaiting permanent adoption. For that reason, they will do best in homes where they are primarily inside pets and spend lots of time with their families. If you are interested in meeting Hazel or learning more about our adoption process, please submit an adoption application. Thank you!
