Harlow is a a small German Shepherd, only weighing around 50 pounds. She was rescued when she lived in a backyard in Memphis with another dog. Both dogs were heartworm positive, and she has been fully treated for heartworm at this point. She was neglected, and underweight. She was not treated as a family member, and hence probably why she is un-trusting of humans and skittish. When adopting Harlow, compare it to a feral cat. You will exist with her and be her caretaker, but she will show you no affection. You must have some basic knowledge on fearful dogs or be willing to work with an approved behavior consultant.
Harlow requires a fenced in yard and experience with fearful dogs. Despite how beautiful she is, she is not a good choice for a first time dog parent. She is great with other dogs and currently is fostered with a cat.
Here is what her foster family says-
“ She's turning into such a goofy girl! She doesn't get too excited about us or wants us to touch her, but her favorite parts of the day are when Jazzy gets up in the morning and food time. I don't think she'll ever be anyone's adventure dog unfortunately.
She knows her name, look, bed, and come. She spends her time lounging and playing with her toys in our bed when we aren't upstairs and trying to get our cat to play with her :)”
Harlow is around five years of age. When she first came to Pittsburgh four years ago, her original foster family decided to keep her however, they ended up eventually dumping her on a family member who also adopted a dog from us. He ended up moving out of the country and returned both dogs back on us. So that’s her story so far- can you be her forever home?
