My Story

***Harlie*** 5 year old female yellow fox red Labrador Retriever ***Harlie*** 5 year old female yellow fox red Labrador Retriever HI! My fosters have been calling me Penny just like the pretty coppery coin! They say I am a foxy lady behind a pound of wrinkles am one of the sweetest Labs that you'll meet. I have spent the last 6 weeks learning how to be a dog. I am told I just ooze happiness. I have conquered a fear of stairs and confusion of what to do with dog beds and toys. Every time I get petted, I get thrilled and fall in love. I just want to cuddle with all of my being, so my fosters are helping me to learn personal space. My adorable droop and giant Flintstone feet will make your heart melt. I am petite but solid, weighing in at 74 pounds. I am totally driven by my nose. And when I catch a scent, all other senses turn off, so I will need a fenced yard to help me know when to stop. I am happy to walk on a leash and have recently started running and playing with the other dogs. Fetch is confusing, but I am full of joy to just run and leap while the others retrieve. I am still a bit uncertain and cower and retreat a little when a male approaches. I quickly respond when a kind touch is extended, but this is going to take time as I was not treated so great in the past. I love the ladies and am exuberant with children, but never aggressive. I have not met any cats or small dogs, yet. I am a bit of an elephant in the room - I have no finesse and can be a trip hazard as I am always under feet as I don’t want to miss anything. Like I said, I am being taught boundaries and basic commands, so I’m quickly learning! Because I spent my life in a barn, I still have some barn manners. My water dumping has subsided, but I still drink like a slob. But I don’t have any food aggression, and the open food bowl poses no problems. My new family will have to spend extra time helping me with potty training. I have come a long way but needs lots of patience while outside to be given time to go. A fenced yard and positive reinforcement will help me to continue to make big strides. Car rides still make me a bit nervous, but I don’t want left out and join my foster crew every time. Overall I am a smart girl that has quickly mastered bad habits from my foster dogs but have made my way onto the couches and beds with pure delight. I snore like a freight train, even in a light sleep. I am curious, and loving, and have all of the loyal, obedient Labrador traits that the breed is popular for. At only 4 years old, I am full of life, smart, and mild. I would love to cuddle up with you in a forever home!
