My Story

Dog Name: Habersham Breed: mixed Sex: Male Age: 2 years Weight: 25lbs Medical Needs: Habby has Mega Esophagus. He requires special care but is thriving under the care of his foster family as they accommodate his needs. He requires daily medication and to be fed upright and rest after eating. Housebroken: Yes. Crate trained: Yes. The crate is his safe space. Any adopter would need to be willing to use a crate. Good in the car: Yes. Good on a leash: Moderate. He still pulls and is scared of trash cans. He is consistently improving. Energy level: medium to high. For a sick guy he is quite the spry little man! He loves playing outside with his foster kids, and would love an active lifestyle. He naps just as hard as he plays, and lives by the #playhardsleephard motto Need a fenced in yard: No, if adopter is willing to keep him on a leash and walk frequently. Dog Friendly: Yes. If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No. He does feed off the energy of other dogs, so if a dog is temperamental he could react. He would do best in a home with a slow-and-steady type companion. Cat Friendly? Yes. With proper introductions. Kid Friendly: Yes If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? No toddlers. Any child would need to understand boundaries for an acclimating dog. Habersham is going to require time to be comfortable in a new space. This includes people popping into his own personal doggie space. Traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Habersham is a very loving dog and a very good listener. Ever heard of the two-week shutdown or umbilical training? (If not, get to googling before you fill out that app). He requires boundaries be made and kept to succeed. Habersham might not accept you with open arms right away, but if we're being honest, did you LOVE all your best friends the moment you met them? Real ride-or-die friends take TIME AND PATIENCE. Any adopter would need to be sure they are ready for the commitment of a former shelter dog who gets nervous around new people. The two-week shutdown might be more of a 3 or 4 week shutdown as he slowly gets used to your home and the people in it. Slow and steady is the key to winning over Habersham's affection, but we promise it will be worth it in the end. In his former adoptive home there was an instance of him biting the dog sitter. Due to this fact he will need to thoroughly meet everyone that comes in your home multiple times before he is handled. As stated before, he is a nervous and scared former shelter dog that needs time to acclimate in your home quietly before there are any new visitors.
