Gus was found under a tree in a dry river bed, just weeks old and completely unable to fend for himself. A kind man saw him and didn't have the heart to leave him there. He brought him home, washed him, fed him, and called the refuge. With dogs of his own, he couldn't have taken on another pup but like many Mexicans who are saddened by the plight of dogs here, he needed help.
We're so glad he picked up Gus, because little Gus is already quite a character. He is very joyful and scampers around, fixing you with his bright little eyes and watching everything that goes on in the refuge. He is now probably six weeks old and has been vaccinated. Gus is a terrier type, possibly even with some poodle in him, and he will be a small dog, even a very small dog. He still looks like a baby hedgehog whose spines haven't hardened yet. He's great fun, and will make someone a very sweet pet. You get the impression with Gus that he'll give much more than he takes. He is currently in La Paz, Mexico, but will come to Calgary when he is old enough and would love to have a home waiting for him!
