24 June 2010 - Introducing Gus!
Welcome Gus to rescue! The Gus Man is a young and energetic pup that is just going on a year old. A beautiful fawn color with amazingly expressive light brown eyes, Gus is a quick learner. He is still just a pup, so is still getting used to the limits of what is allowed to be chewed on, so some supervision is necessary when cardboard, pens or pencils are left out. He does prefer fuzzy squeakers and chew treats, however, and can be easily redirected. If fact, any toy does well with him, and even better if he can get you or other dogs to join in.
He is doing very well with his house breaking, but does best with a consistent schedule, and still needs some supervision.
He gets along great with other dogs, dog-tolerant cats and even younger children. He does try to get the others to play with him
He is a snuggler: if you are on the couch, he wants to curl up nearby, if you are in bed, he will insist on laying next to you! He loves head pets, belly rubs, and most especially ear rubs. But as long as a person is nearby, he likes to just curl up as well.
Gus has had surgery on his left back knee. When he came into rescue, he barely used this leg as his kneecap was not in place. Less than a month after his surgery, he uses it 95% of the time and has been building up the muscle tone that he had lost. The patella surgery is designed to be a permanent fix. His other back knee is a grade 2: this means that although the vet can manually pop it out of place, it goes back immediately on its own and it very strong. The vet has said that is unlikely that this knee will ever have a problem.
Gus will zoom around the yard enticing the others to play and has recovered wonderfully. He is looking for a forever home that with toss him toys and give him lots of snuggles.
He is neutered, up to date with all his vaccinations and has great teeth.
