My Story

Gunner Male 12/23/23 6 months, not yet neutered Shepherd mix Hi I'm Gunner!! I spent the start of my life homeless in Texas before some nasty disease called parvo got me and almost killed me. I had to spend 10 days in the hospital, lost my vision and couldn't remember how to walk. The good news is, they say I'm in NY now, I'm healthy and loving foster life! My vision is mostly back but I still struggle to see things far away. Sometimes those big blurry blobs in the distance spook me until I figure out what they are! I can run and play just like a normal dog. Well my foster mom says I'm doofy and my legs are too big for me but whose aren't?! I LOVE my humans. Will do anything for those people. 20/10 recommend. Want to spend every moment curled up with them. They let me sleep on their bed and I sprawl out like I'm the king of the lands. If my humans get up and stop snuggling me (rude!), I fall into stride right at their feet and sometimes try to herd them gently back to our snuggle spot I like other dogs and am mostly submissive. I am very good at reading animals and know when to mind my own business! Cats are ok but they do scare me. Ive been around older kids but young kids might be too much for me cause of how fast and loud they can be! These elephant ears have bionic hearing after all I don't like car rides or leashes, mostly cause they've taken me to sad places like the vet, but I'm hoping to learn to love them now that I'm safe! My foster parents say I'm doing excellent with potty training, crate training and basic obedience! Here's my foster family's summary of me: Mister shy guy. Gunner is a big baby and will splat on the ground when you try to pick him up would do best in a home without small children and a calmer environment to build his confidence crate trained, mostly potty trained Very smart boy, picks up on things so quickly Loves to snuggle. He just wants to lay with his people all day! He is going to be the best boy for the right home. He has brought so much joy to us (and his TX foster mom) in the short time with us both, we cannot wait to see him blossom!
