Guerrara is a 5 year old Xolocuintle from Mexico. She was brought to Michigan at 4 months old (after all shots, of course) and has been living here ever since. She weights approximately 40-45 lbs but the good news is that she doesn't shed!!
Guerrara has a wonderful, friendly, and loving personality with adults. She gets extremely excited to meet new companions, and immediately jumps up on her two back legs as she tries to lick the faces of her potential new friends. However, she is a bit jealous of our young child (and we have another on the way), so we recommend that Guerrara only be adopted by a home with no small dogs or children under the age of 12. Larger dogs may be OK, as she seems fine around our friends' dogs, if they are bigger than she is. She is always fine with our two cats.
Guerrara is used to being alone during the day, and does very well. We keep her in our bedroom with the door closed, but not in a crate. She happily sleeps under our bedcovers while she is alone from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. She could probably go a few hours longer if need be, as she really does like to sleep! At night, she sleeps in her crate, because otherwise she hogs the bed!
She is house trained, and lets you know when it is time to go outside by clicking her front paws/nails on the sliding glass door. She will make an attempt to flee the neighborhood if she spies the chance, so we keep her on a 20 foot leash when we let her outside. A fenced in yard would be best but because she cannot be left outside for long, utilizing a long lead would be acceptable as well. She is really more of an indoor dog, due to her hairlessness. If you take her out for in the summer, you must use sunscreen to protect her skin. In the winter, she really won't want to be out long.
She is spayed and in very good health.
Overall, Guerrara is a wonderful dog, and we are very sorry to put her up for adoption. But since we do have a new baby on the way in July, she just isn't a good fit for our family any more.
If you don't have small children or pets, have dog experience, have a fenced yard and would love an affectionate dog to cuddle on the couch with you, Guerrara would be a perfect companion.

We do not have a facility; all of our dogs are fostered in private homes. To view our dogs, please check www.waggintailsdogrescue.org for the dates of our next adoption events. With few exceptions, we show our adoptable animals on Saturdays from 12pm - 3pm at Petco in Novi (on Novi Rd south of 12 mile) or Petco in Farmington Hills (Orchard Lake south of 14 mile). Arrangements can be made to meet our rescue dogs outside of Saturday adoption events after an approved application is submitted (the application does not imply an obligation by the applicant or by the rescue group).
Please be kind to our volunteers who have made rescue a second job that they do in their spare time after coming home from full-time jobs. E-mail inquiries will be answered much more quickly than phone inquiries; our phone number is a voice mailbox only.
Thank you for your support of rescue and your interest in a rescue dog!
