Little Greta was pulled from a shelter, she was an unclaimed stray. Thank God, if she would have went back to her home she would have died, from neglect. She would have never been adopted from the shelter, in her condition. No one in the neighborhood would claim ownership of this baby. They knew they would be trouble!
She is an 8 yrs old, yorkie/maltese mix. She has the little yorkie face, but has little floppy ears and a long body. She is tan/blond in color.
I was so worried about her the first night I had her, I was afraid she was going to die. She had no hope in her little eyes and just laid in her bed trembling. I tucked her in, to keep warm and gave her a good night kiss and then prayed she would be ok. I woke up all during the night to check on her. The next morning she was up at 5:30 AM. I’ve never been so glad to get up that early.
She is up to date on shots, heartworm neg, and spayed. Her blood work came back 'great', no health issues. She does have a very low grade heart murmur, level 1 or 2, this requires no med attention and doesn't affect her health at this point and MAY NEVER. The vet thinks she developed this due to her neglect. Once she gets some weight on her we will have some dental work done, we’re afraid to sedate her at this point.
I could go on and on about how pitiful and sad this little girl is, but I won’t.
If anyone would like to make any type of donation towards her care, please visit our website for details: www.SouthernFurbabyRescue.com OR mail directly to: SFR c/o Tammy Owen, 913 Boozer Drive, Oxford, AL 36203
UPDATES
Greta is doing much better, she is eating like a little pig. She is interacting with other dogs and she has a little bounce her her step now. And, she is wagging her tail. She is still a little timid, but when it comes to her food she will defend it to the end (with other dogs) I guess if I was starved I would too.
2/8/04 - I've had Greta for one week now and she has gained 1 lb. She is doing great. But, she now has a cold. It looks like she is going to be a regular at the vets office. But, that is ok as long as she is feeling better.
2/14/04 - Greta gained another 1/2 lb. She is doing great. Her little personality is still blooming! She is becoming prissy and bossy, in a very cute and adorable way. Wonderful baby!!!
3/19/04 - Greta is now up to 14.8 lbs. She will probably only get up to 15 lbs. We still need to have some dental work done but other than that she is ready for a new home. She is a wonderful, playful and happy girl. She loves to be with people and wants to go everywhere with you. She is not a very active girl, so wouldn't do well as a childs pet. She needs a quite home with lots of love and attention.
