Luckily for Grant, the shelter rescue director contacted our rescue. Seeing Grant at the shelter was heartbreaking. He was very skinny, at least 40 Lb. underweight and he had hard time walking. But in spite of his bad shape and obvious pain, Grant walked very slowly and greeted us with a low howl, as if he was saying “Hellooow, can you pleeeese help me?”. That was all it took. Grant made it out of the shelter- alive.
Grant was taken to the specialty hospital where he had x-rays and a CT scan. It was determine that he has a severe infection in the spine which caused bone damage effecting the nerves. The surgeon said that it was the worse she has ever seen. Grant was put on meds and sent to foster care.
After a few weeks in foster care, Grant has gained 22 Lb. Follow-up x-rays show that the medication is working and the infection is better, but scar tissue is putting some pressure on the nerves, which causing Grant a lot of pain.
7/29/08: To relieve pressure on the entrapped nerve, Grant had a delicate spinal surgery(Laminectomy ). Surgery went well and we expect 4 weeks of recovery time.
Donations to help with Grant's veterinary care (meds, x-rays, CT scans, surgery) will be greatly appreciated.
