My Story

GRACIE HAS HAD EXTRA VETTING EXPENSES AND ANY DONATIONS TO THE GRACIE FUND WOULD BE APPRECIATED!! READ HER STORY BELOW FOR MORE INFORMATION! Gracie is a beautiful Walker Coonhound with a story that will break your heart. Gracie was named because only by the grace of God is she still here to "grace" us with her beatiful personality and presence. Gracie came to the shelter very pregnant, as you can clearly see in these photos. This is where her terrible story begins. Gracie went into labor at the shelter on a weekend night after everyone had left the shelter. The next morning when the shelter supervisor came into, she knew Gracie was in serious trouble. She had 4 puppies still living, 3 others who were dead and was continuously straining in an effort to have others. After a call to the Vet, Gracie was rushed to the clinic obviously in severe pain and distress. The vet attempted to pull out the remaining pups to no avail. He then gave her an injection to make her contractions stronger but that didn't work either. Infection had already set up in Gracie and though he feared surgery was not an option, we knew it was the only way to possibly save Gracie. Gracie did survive her surgery but she was in serious condition from weakness, dehydration and infection and really wasn't expected to make it through the night. Lo and behold, Gracie was still alive when the Vet staff came in the next morning and "by the grace of God and lots of prayers from the shelter" she has continued to get stronger and better every day since. Only 2 pups survived but they are doing well so far. The vet said there were 10-12 pups all together and they were as long as half of his arm length. It is no wonder Gracie suffered so in giving her babies life. Gracie will only be adopted to the best possible home and will only be placed as a house companion. Her days of suffereing are over and she will be treated like royalty from here on out. NO HUNTERS PLEASE!! Gracie is one of the most loving, beautiful Coonhounds to have ever called the shelter home. She deserves only the best and the best she shall receive. To find out more about Gracie, please call Kim Perry at (606) 638-0512.
