My Story

PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION IN THE DOG'S PROFILE, AS WELL AS THE INFORMATION ON OUR WEBSITE BEFORE EMAILING US WITH QUESTIONS. Our Volunteers use up valuable time answering questions, when the answers are readily available on our website. Our adoptions come with 30 days of free post-adoption support through Petcademy.org. We are a foster-based rescue. We do not have a facility. MEET & GREETS FOR DOGS IN ONTARIO WILL ONLY BE ARRANGED ONCE AN ADOPTION APPLICATION IS APPROVED. THANK YOU!!! Please visit our website for more information: https://www.niagaradogrescue.com/ or fill in our adoption application: https://niagaradogrescue.com/adoption-application.php OUT-OF-TOWN Dogs with NDR refer to dogs we have saved that have yet to make their journey to Ontario. These dogs are currently in our care with the help of our partners in the area. These dogs will all travel to the Niagara Region once an appropriate adopter or local foster is found. This dog is currently located in: South Carolina Dog’s Name: Gracie (20240618-02) Weight: 30 lbs Age: 8 years Gender: Female Spayed/Neutered: Yes Medical issues: None Breed: Spaniel mix Colour: White and red Neck size (for collar): Height (from top of head): Length (from collar to base of tail): Length (from nose to base of tail): Crate size recommended: Medium Good with women: Yes, will be shy initially Good with men: Yes, will be shy initially Good with kids: Yes, peaceful, quiet and respectful older kids Good with other dogs: Yes Good with cats: Not tested, but she is very passive House trained: Yes Crate trained: Yes Energy level: Low Can be handled/touched: Yes Barker: No, we have never heard her utter a sound, except an occasional whine when she has to go potty Flight risk: Yes Food aggressive: No Current food: Costco Chicken and Rice Walks on leash: Yes, loves to go on walks Leash reactive to people or dogs: No Rides well in car: Yes, but is a bit nervous in cars/rides in a crate Destructive: No Needs a home with a yard: Yes Needs a home with another dog: Yes, to help her come out of her shell Can live in an apartment: No History (how did you acquire dog?): Gracie was seized by animal control from a backyard breeder/hoarder who had 57 neglected dogs on the property. She then went to to a local high kill shelter Other important info: Gracie was removed from an extreme hording situation and placed in the local high-kill shelter, where she completely shut down. She was absolutely terrified of everything - people, other dogs, noise -everything. Through the past year, she has made tremendous strides working with her foster family. Where once there was fear, now there is courage. Trepidation has been replaced by confidence. Grace has at last found her true spirit. While she is still hesitant around humans, she loves other dogs, particularly smaller ones. She has also discovered her happy space with hiking. She loves to go on long hikes with other dogs, taking in the natural scenery around her. Grace will likely never be a super active and playful dog, besides going on long walks, hikes, and adventures, but she is a super sweet girl who has overcome so much fear and distrust. After almost two years in rescue, she is finally ready for her furever home. She will do best in a home with older children who can respect her need to be alone at times. But once she accepts her new family, she will be a tenacious soul ready for her next steps with that new family.
