ADOPTED! - We rescued Gina from a shelter in Ohio, shortly before she was to be euthanized.
Nobody wanted to adopt her because she had significant hair loss and she didn't act happy and bouncy like the younger dogs and puppies at the shelter. (We don't know how old Gina is, but our guess is between 6 and 8 years.)
Even though no one else could see it, we saw beauty in Gina's eyes.
We looked beyond her skin problems, her greying muzzle, her heartbroken demeanor... We saw a gentle soul who had never known a warm bed and good food, and who had never received proper medical care. We brought Gina home and immediately rushed her to our veterinary clinic where we soon discovered why she was acting so sad. She had a serious ear infection, her front teeth had been broken off at the gum line (leaving exposed painful roots) she had a bad skin infection, and--unfortunately--she also had heartworms. But Gina could sense that we wanted to help her, and--being a survivor--she wasn't giving up, so we decided we weren't giving up on HER! We made the commitment for her to receive the medical care that she needed, and now Gina's coat is shiny and sleek, her heartworms are gone, her ears and skin problems are cleared up, and she has had her dental needs taken care of! Within a few weeks of our posting Gina to Petfinder, we were contacted by a wonderful couple who wanted to adopt her. Unfortunately, after keeping her just a week, they called to say it wasn't working out--because Gina loved their cats too much! She would spend all day trying to round them up like a litter of babies, and then she wanted to "wash" them--kissing them until they were all wet! Sadly, some of the cats weren't too fond of this, so.....Gina was returned to our rescue program for LOVING TOO MUCH! Now she is sad and confused--not understanding what she did "wrong"--and we are once again looking for the perfect adoptor for Gina. She would love a fenced yard (please, no invisible fencing), and she needs at least one kitty friend--one who doesn't mind (or would even enjoy) being "mothered" by a gentle, loving dog! We would prefer that Gina not be a latchkey dog, so an adopter who works part time, is retired, or works out of the home would be perfect for her. Gina is spayed, wormed, immunized, and microchipped and her adoption fee is $250. If you are interested in possibly adopting Gina, please write and tell us a little about yourself and your family situation and your lifestyle. If we feel Gina would be a good fit for you--and vice versa--we will send you an adoption application. Our e-mail address is:
