Returned 7-23-07. Please go to our home page to see his photos from a year ago, when he was 1 yr. by clicking on our "happy tails" link. Gilly is a wonderful dog. Raised right with other animals, cats, dogs and kids. He is VERY tolerant of children of all ages. He is a hugh, lumbering moose of a dog, but amazing agile and athletic. All soft and gentle unless he perceives a threat. Then he can be quite menacing, although we are quite certain it would have to be pretty serious for him to actually bite someone. He is a very insecure dog, who often gets into trouble by picking on the wrong "packmate". He and a 1 yr old Doberman female/spayed here are the best of friends and play so hard all day, it wears ME out! Because of his resource guarding and propensity to be a trouble maker, a home with one other female dog is what we are seeking for him. He does LOVE his doggie time as much as his people time. He is totally housebroke, knows basic obedience and generally a wonderful dog to be around. He does get hot easily and loves his "kiddie" wading pool. Gilligan was placed in a home one year ago with a nice couple with lots of acreage and it just didn't work out. They were trying to replace a Redbone coonhound they had lost to a tragic accident and one, Bloodhounds are NOT Coonhounds in any aspect and two, you should never try to replace a beloved dog. Only open your heart to move on and offer your love to a new one, never replace. We are seeking a BH saavy home. He's alot of dog, and shows some behaviours that he may have been mistreated by the man of the house in his last home. He's turning back into his old carefree self more and more every day, but may always be afraid of sticks and rocks, and possibly men. BH's are social, friendly, gentle dogs, but males are known to be aggressive toward other males. They can be somewhat stubborn. Their favorite pastime is "fawning" on their beloved owner. Gilly is a HUGE leaner and often leaves his favorite person's leg with stringers of drool hanging down! BH's are not for the faint of heart, or meticulous house keepers, but will repay their owner with unconditional love and protection. They do need regular daily exercise, a good 3-5 mile walk or several hours running and playing hard with another dog in a fenced area should suffice in order to keep your BH calm and gentle.
