My Story

This stunning healthy girl is 3 yrs old, 100% German Shepherd and smart as a whip. Georgia is a complicated character with many positives and definite challenges. She loves being home with her people, or waiting at home when they are out. Georgia is a very affectionate girl who loves tummy rubs and sometimes tries to be a lapdog. This girl loves chasing the ball at the beach, and hiking off-leash where allowed. Regular in-town leash walks, not so much fun for this girl. Although young, she is not a high energy dog and does fine with occasional beach outings, and playing Zoomie Go! in the backyard. At 66 pounds, Georgia is in her physical prime of young adulthooddone with puppy nonsense, a very quick learner, patient, sensitive to her people's moods, has impeccable house manners, and would never think of sticking her long nose where it doesn't belong. She is a good traveler, riding silently in her crate (although she doesn't like people to approach the back of the car). Georgia loves her toys, especially the very small soft ones she enjoys tossing in the air, and displays absolutely no resource guarding of toys, food, etc., easily allowing them to be taken from her. Most fortunately, she is completely unperturbed by sirens, thunder, fireworks or other loud noises. Georgia's challenges all stem from her considerable anxiety which she has had since being first adopted at five months. Long term Prozac treatment has not been of much benefit. She exhibits extreme protection of the home, and will not allow others to enter unless she is crated. She despises delivery trucks/drivers and the mail carrier. In full disclosure, she once escaped out the front door when a child came to the door and bit the child. She is not safe with children, cats or chickens. Georgia has several dog friends of various sizes she has gone on routine walks with and gets along with them fine. In public, on or off leash she displays no aggression to people, even large male runners running towards us. She is unpredictably occasionally reactive to other dogs on leashes or behind fences we walk by. Georgia is dearly loved but must be rehomed due to owners' aging issues and the need to have other people welcomed into the home. Georgia would do best living in a calm rural setting with an adoptive parent who is willing to put in the time, training, and patience to help her with her anxiety. They would be rewarded with an affectionate, loyal and extraordinary companion. This is a courtesy post. Georgia will be waiting in Santa Cruz. You like this dog...now what?
