My Story

Thank you Roger and Linda Pettey for sponsoring Gemma, with your kind donation. Hi! I'm Gemma-let me tell you a bit about myself. My friends at BAGSR took me in after I had 13 puppies all alone in a field in Stockton. I'm done with the kids and ready to get on with things. I'm a young girl and it's time to live the good life! I absolutely love going on walks, and I get super excited when I see the leash. I do zoomies around the house or yard multiple times a day because I love to display my joyful energy. Running fast is my favorite, especially when someone chases me while I have a toy in my mouth. I also love running uphill and have to admit, I enjoy chasing small animals like squirrels, geckos, and quail. I think playing catch with a soft ball is really fun and I always bring it back to the thrower. I'm affectionate too-belly rubs and having my face stroked are the best! I'm okay with getting my fur brushed, but loud whirring noises like a blender or Soda Stream scare me. I just haven't experienced a lot of house sounds yet. My first bath at the pet store was a new and frightening experience with all the tubs and hoses. I'll get used to these things with guidance from a patient and loving adopter. As I get more comfortable and trusting of my humans, my puppy-like exuberance and joy come out with lots of tail wags and kisses. If everyone is quiet, like when watching TV or napping, I'll settle down too. I sleep through the night and sometimes jump up on the sofa to relax, but I'll get off when asked. I have nice house manners. I've been practicing sit and come when my name is called. I'm okay passing a friendly dog on a walk, but I might react if the other dog is barking and growling. This is just something I'll need practice with. Suburban life is new to me. My BAGSR friends think I lived my earlier life in a field without exposure to common urban sights and sounds. Group training would be great for me! I do like to chase cats so no cats for me please. I'm very fast and agile, jumping up and down from a 4-foot wall and walking on an 8-inch wide retaining wall. I have good recall when my name is called, but if I'm focused on prey, I might respond slower. I do great with dogs my size and absolutely love my humans! I can get snarky with other dogs during meal times so prepare food away from me and feed me separately. Maybe it's from when I had to fend for myself in the field. I do get along well with other dogs, including my three dog pals at my current foster home. I'll be waiting with my foster family in Granite Bay. You like this dog...now what? Please take 3-4 minutes and complete our application form at: https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/42179/generic Our adoption team will spring into action to help you adopt this dog. If you have already completed the application and are approved, please phone or text your adoption counselor and we will set up a meeting. Not sure, foster first and adopt later! BAGSR is always in need of fosters. There is an overwhelming number of dogs who need our help and the more fosters we have, the more dogs we can save. BAGSR covers expenses, including food. Fosters provide the love and a soft place to crash. https://petstablished.com/foster_form/42405/generic
