My Story

Frito is a tiny shepherd mix puppy who was apparently abandoned with his brother on the doorstep of a pet store associate in Little Rock on a blisteringly hot summer day. The two little puppies were barely six weeks old, hungry, hot, thirsty, and very scared. You would think that their situation was dire and hopeless but without hesitation they both did the one thing and the only thing, that they knew how to do and knew how to do extremely well; they set off a siren of very loud abject wailing and crying. It didn’t take long to get the attention of the people inside. When the pups were first found they were healthy but on the verge of a crisis; fleas, ticks, dehydration, parasites, starvation, and stress were all present and together are all that is needed to lead to more serious and life threatening conditions. Frito was treated aggressively for the fleas and other parasites, received his first round of shots, was given good quality food and clean fresh water, and was pampered with love and attention. In the next few days he will be seeing the vet for a complete medical evaluation. Frito still announces his displeasure at not being the center of attention with a peel of glass shattering cries that will put a knot in your ear canal, but you have to understand that he’s missing his mother and was probably separated from her before his time. It’s difficult to say exactly what breeds comprise Frito’s ancestry, especially at such a young age, but some kind of shepherd mix would be a good best guess. He will probably grow to between 50 and 80 Lbs. Please remember that as beautiful and cuddly as Frito is at the moment, he will grow into a large dog in no time at all. You should also be prepared for the usual trial of rearing a young puppy including the chewing, crying, potty training, and constant demands. For this reason we would prefer that Frito’s new guardians have experience with young puppies and understand their special needs. Remember, just like kids, they grow up real fast. Frito will be available to meet at the DogsOnly adoption showing at Petco in West Little Rock on Chelan Parkway across from Target and Home Depot every Saturday and Sunday from 1-4. If you think there is a place in your home and family for this sweet little puppy you are invited to complete an online adoption application by clicking the orange colored text links at the top or bottom of Frito’s official bio page located at http://www.dogsonly.org/182pop.html. You can also send an email to [email protected] with any questions or comments. PLEASE NOTE: ALL ADOPTIONS REQUIRE SECURE FENCING. THIS DOG IS NOT SUITABLE AS A WORKING LIVESTOCK GUARDIAN DOG. COMPANION HOMES ONLY PLEASE.
