My Story

Hi, I’m Fred. As you can probably tell, I am looking for a retirement home. My mom had to go into an assisted living facility and wasn’t able to care for me anymore, so I am currently in residence at a foster home. The people are nice, and most of the dogs are nice, but I think I’m ready for my own family. I’m not just another dog – I am a purebred cocker spaniel. But don’t look too close or you might see that my left ear is set about ½ inch higher on my head than my right ear. Oh well, we all have our minor imperfections. I need someone who will take me out for walks several times a day. I try to always potty when I am outside, but sometimes I don’t get enough warning when I am in the house to make it outside in time; I think a regular schedule would help…you know how old men are. I get along with other dogs and cats. They tell me I have been neutered (whatever that means), and am current on shots (I should be – I see the vet often enough). Like most cocker spaniels, I am prone to ear, eye, and skin infections, so my new owner will have to be willing to keep up on my medical conditions. I take thyroid medications regularly, and from time to time I need stuff put in my ears and eyes. For my part, I stand still and let you treat my eyes and ears without complaint. (I’ve seen other dogs try to get away or hide, but I don’t think it’s worth the effort since I will end up getting treated in the end anyway). I don’t need much other than food, a bed, a few treats, and my medication. I really like the nightly ritual where my foster mom gives us all cookies. Sometimes I have to remind her that it is cookie time, but I do it nicely. I used to speak for my cookies, but I don’t hear very well anymore, and I don’t make noise either. Just because I am a senior citizen, that doesn’t mean I have lost my love of life or of people. I would very much like a new person to bond with and who I can call my own. If you have room in your life for me, please contact my foster mom, Claire, at [email protected] or 360-681-4440. Thanks.
