My Story

BONDED PAIR! Hi Everyone I am Haley, but my foster mom calls me Haley Rose. She says I am a classic beauty just like a rose. I kinda like that. I have a brother named Foxy, we are close. We are litter mates and are 5 years old now. People say we are a bonded pair, but I like to think its Foxy who is bonded to me. Foxy is 22ish pounds, and I am the big sister at 42 pounds (but I still have my girlish figure). At our vet check the other day we had all our necessary tests and shots and we are now all up to date. We will be spayed and neutered very soon. When our Mom passed ours Dad could no longer care for us and knew Maine Sheltie Rescue would find us the best furever home-sweet -home. It was a little upsetting which made us nervous, confused and a little snippy with our foster siblings initially. But we are doing much better now because our foster family shows us lots of love and makes us feel safe. They let us give them kisses and curl up on the couch with them and we get lots of hugs and treats. We go on walkies in their little neighborhood and have met humans and dog friends there. It seems like a good life that our foster sisters have and I know that both of us would love a life like that for our own. We are hoping to find a family that can love a bonded pair and give us a good forever home. If you think you have these special traits and are ready for your very own kisses and snuggles please fill out an application at Maine Sheltie Rescue. I promise you won’t regret it. Note from the foster family: Haley is not wrong I do call her Haley Rose, she is a beauty with an old classic look. She is the sweetest girl that just wants to be loved. She is gentle and kind and loves to be with you. She is on the large side but not overweight. She was a little snippy when first introduced to our girls, but has quickly gotten over it, with rare exceptions only if accidentally startled when she is napping, or if she perceives our girls, or her brother are invading, her space. She is also wary of high-energy dog strangers, and has occasionally shown her teeth, but is otherwise unreactive; they leave her alone she leaves them alone. Foxy is a little skittish or shy at first but he is still a love. In fact he is a bit of a ‘Velcro’ dog’ and a mush bug. It didn’t take long for him to want to be near someone all the time and he likes to curl up next to you on the couch, even resting his head on you. He does get a little spooked with fast movement but we believe in time he will learn that all is okay. He has been showing some marking behavior in the house, which we believe is linked with being unfixed and/or the stress and break in routine associated with being rehomed; we expect this behavior will improve with time post-neutering and are training with a belly-band and positive reinforcement.
