My Story

Felix' foster mom says: Felix is the perfect dog! He is gentle, quiet, sweet and happy. What a wonderful boy!

Felix is listed as having "special needs" because sadly, he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in January 2007. He has fluid building up in the right side of his heart and it will eventually be terminal, but he is acting so healthy! Right now, his symptoms are being managed with two daily medications. This boy doesn't know that he's ill and he still has a great time playing with his foster siblings and following his foster parents around the house. Waggin' Tails is committed to allowing Felix to live out his life surrounded by love. When his time comes (this is tough to write about), he will be allowed to "cross the bridge" with dignity. We will not let him be in pain or suffer because of his disease. But for now, he is enjoying life...playing in the backyard with his foster siblings, snuggling in his warm bed, and excitedly eating his yummy food. Thank you for joining us in keeping Felix in your thoughts. There has rarely been such a sweet dog. He truly deserves every bit of love that he's receiving in his foster home.

Arrival story: Felix lived in a rural kennel up north for years. Waggin' Tails' volunteers brought him down to southeast Michigan so he'd have a better chance at adoption.

Approximate age: Felix is about 9 years old.

Personality: Felix ranks up there as one of the best dogs ever! He is a little shy around men, but so friendly. He always perks his ears up and wags his tail when he catches you looking in his direction. For living so many years in a kennel, he has surprisingly good manners! He doesn't beg for food, he doesn't get up on furniture (although he'll probably learn that soon from the other dogs in his foster home) and he quietly lays at your feet when you sit down. He loves to be near you, but he doesn't raise a fuss if he's not right next to you. I'm telling you, he is perfect!

Felix is very good at spotting and chasing squirrels! It is one of his new favorite activities with his foster siblings.

He loves the dogs in his foster home, but they do seem a little too playful for him. He would prefer that they just play together and let him have a little break! His foster mom is looking out for him and makes sure that he gets some quiet time away from his rowdy siblings.

Felix' forever home: Because of Felix' terrminal medical condition, we know it would take a very special forever home to adopt him. It might not be likely that he'll find a forever home besides the foster home that he is currently in. But he is happily living in his foster home and his foster parents and canine siblings love having him there. If there is a home out there for Felix it would be one that recognizes that one year or five years with this boy is better than no time with him at all. Your life will be richer for having him in it, for taking care of him, for showing him love that he missed out on for so long. Felix is truly a perfect dog. We really hope that Felix' forever home would have a fenced in yard because he missed out for so long when he was living in a kennel. He loves to be outside and a fenced in yard would allow him to run, sniff and play without having to be on a leash. Thanks for reading about Felix.

Waggin' Tails Adoption Information: Waggin' Tails Dog Rescue has a standard adoption fee of $175, or $200 for puppies plus a $50 deposit which is returned upon proof of spay/neuter at six months of age. Our adoption process includes an application, vet reference checks, and a home visit.

We do not have a facility; all of our dogs are fostered in private homes. To view our dogs, please check www.waggintailsdogrescue.org for the dates of our next adoption events. With few exceptions, we show our adoptable animals on Saturdays from 12pm - 3pm at Petco in Novi (on Novi Rd south of 12 mile) or Petco in Farmington Hills (Orchard Lake south of 14 mile). Arrangements can be made to meet our rescue dogs outside of Saturday adoption events after an approved application is submitted (the application does not imply an obligation by the applicant or by the rescue group).

Please be kind to our volunteers who have made rescue a second job that they do in their spare time after coming home from full-time jobs. E-mail inquiries will be answered much more quickly than phone inquiries; our phone number is a voice mailbox only.

Thank you for your support of rescue and your interest in a rescue dog!
