My Story

Update 1/30/09: Ewan is one super puppy! He's settled right into life in foster care, and his foster mom says she thinks this adorable fellow would do well in just about any family. He's a typical puppy, he likes to play and explore and then he crashes for naps.

He has discovered that toys are lots of fun, and he's figured out how to play fetch. His house training is coming along well, with only a few accidents in recent days, which is typical for a puppy. His foster mom says Ewan seems very smart and teachable, and he appears to be a medium-energy dog. He'll need regular exercise and play, but he's not hyper at all. He's got the hang of sit, and he makes no fuss at bedtime (though he does get to sleep in the bedroom with the people).

Update 1/25/09: Holy Cute!!! Here's Ewan, one of a litter of puppies who were dumped at a shelter right before the holidays. Evan is now about 5 months old and still very puppyish and fuzzy.

Ewan is great with kids, and he's having a blast playing with his foster parents' grandchildren. He loves people in general and wants to stick to his people like a little furry shadow. When he arrived at his foster home, he barked excitedly at the big dogs there, but the resident canines quickly told him his place. He does want to play and the barking is him saying, "Someone please play with me!" He hasn't shown a whole lot of interest in toys yet, but it might be because there's so much else to explore right now!

Ewan's house training is a work in progress, and he should do fine with frequent trips outside. His foster mom says he's clever and seems to catch on quickly. Like most shelter puppies, he hasn't had any obedience training, and he'd benefit from puppy school.

Stay tuned for more information as this little fellow settles in.

This is a CROSS POSTED DOG. This dog is IN foster care in ARKANSAS, but can be transported here on Saturdays.

Please apply quickly, time IS of the essence.

All known information is listed here. If it is not listed here, then we do not know if this animal is good with cats or kids. Before sending an inquiry, please read the How To Adopt Page & FAQ pages of our website. http:www.almosthomerescue.net. This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending. For PUPPIES: SEE BELOW

If this dog is marked Urgent, it is because the shelter it is in is in Arkansas and is overfull, therefore dogs and puppies alike will be on the euthanasia list. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.

CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.

SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.

SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO ALOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.

HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS ALOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVILENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.

PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!
