Emily – German Shepherd – 2 yrs – female (60lbs) Meet our sweet mama, Emily! This beautiful girl had a very horrific experience when her home was raided by police. Her owners were arrested, she was pepper sprayed, and then taken to a county shelter… all while pregnant with a litter of pups. With all that stress, she went into labor. Sadly, only one puppy out of eight survived and he had to be taken from her at just two days old to be bottle fed. Emily sat at that shelter feeling scared and very unsure of what was happening to her. We originally did not have room for her when we were asked to rescue her pup (Tobias), but when we found out she was still there three months later, we had to make Emily part of our SHR family. ?? Emily is slowly settling in at our shelter and is doing well. She is a very typical shepherd and will need a strong owner who knows the breed and isn’t afraid to set boundaries. She is very smart and wants to work. She’s also food motivated and eager to learn, but she can be somewhat stubborn at times. Shepherds are protection dogs which means that as Emily bonds with her person or people she will become protective of them. If you have a very busy household with a lot of people or kids coming and going, she will probably not be the dog for you. But if you have a relatively calm home and need a loyal, protective companion that will stay by your side, she just might be the girl for you! While Emily can be somewhat cautious of strangers, she warms up quickly and absolutely adores people. We also believe she’s housebroken because she hasn’t had any accidents in her kennel area and we know she lived inside a home. She does well with other dogs, but doesn’t play hard, she’s more about the chase. She’d make a great walking, hiking, or adventure companion.
