Duke's elderly owner w/no family, had passed away in very small town. Duke ended up in local high kill shelter, was past his kill date, when rescued. Not adopted locally due to his size. Duke is a sweet, very huggable boy, very large now, 106 lbs, and will be x-large when he's finished growing at age 3. Kind hearted, obedient, not a bully, good natured guy, gets along well with all other 4 legged creatures. Loves kids, people, and even strangers (right now). He will be protective of his family once bonded. Needs a family who loves and is experienced in giant dogs, with emphasis on the Anatolian Shepherd disposition. Due to his impending size, obedience training is recommended to further his education. Duke is a perfect gentleman at the vet clinic, hops in & out of vehicle, loves to ride, and is doing quite well with his leash training. 5+ fencing required, solid is preferred. Veterinary reference, home visit also required to adopt this rare, unique, gentle giant.

We are a not-for-profit, tax-exempt coalition of Pyr rescuers and rescue groups. We save Pyrs and Pyr mixes across the country and place them in approved foster homes to learn how they will interact with
your family.
Every dog who is fostered or adopted makes room for another Pyr coming out of a kill shelter. NGPR dogs are fostered for a minimum of two weeks or more, spayed or neutered and fully vetted before placement. NGPR will
take back any dog who does not succeed in its new home. Many NGPR volunteers are members of the AKC breed club, adhere to their rescue guidelines for purebred Pyrs and apply these standards to the adoption of Pyr mixes as well. Visit
www.nationalpyr.org to learn more about us, our mission and our breed.
