Please contact Gail ([email protected]) for more information about this pet.Douglas is one of those special dogs that occasionally comes along. This boy is not only a 'people dog' but a 'dog's dog', meaning that he's equally comfortable playing full-out with other dogs his size as he is cuddling with his family. He's small for a 2-3 year old Rottweiller/Coonhound mix, but this makes him the perfect companion for someone who loves the breed but doesn't want the size.
Rescued from the Yuba County Animal Care Services, he's just about the sweetest, most loving dog you could meet. Without one aggressive bone in his body toward humans, food, toys, treats or other dogs (large AND small, male or female), he has personality to spare. Being totally people oriented, he loves adults and children (watch out though that the kids don't serve as bowling pins if he gets too excited ;-), is eager to please and although like most dogs could certainly benefit from training, learns quickly and does what he's told if the trainer is consistent.
Douglas is home centered, doesn't dig, chew or scale tall buildings in a single bound (he does like playing king-of-the-moutain on his outdoor crate) and if you're looking for a watch dog, he can fit that bill as well. Rest assured he won't attack (more likely he will love someone to death), but will bark when he hears something he's not sure of (but doesn't bark ad nauseum). With a sleek black/brown coat that requires very little 'upkeep', he's pretty much a wash and wear dog. What more could you want? How 'bout he's also house and crate trained?
Douglas will definitely add joy to anyone's life and his ideal home will be one where there are no cats to divert his attention, another dog his size to keep him company while his family's gone and being a strong-willed child, someone who is stronger-willed than he and consistently requires that he follow the house rules. Loving his people, Douglas will definitely want to be an indoor/outdoor dog. Like all NorSled dogs, he's neutered, current on his shots, microchipped and tested negative for heartworm.
