My Story

3/22/10-Donovan has been adopted!!!

This adorable little boy is Donovan. Donovan and his siblings Aiden, Matthew and Greenlee recently have found themselves homeless and in jeopardy because an irresponsible owner (or 2) did not spay and/or neuter their dogs, so an uwanted littler was had and they were dumped!

The puppies are approx. 8-10 weeks old. Donovan and Aiden weigh 11 lbs, Matthew weighs 15 lbs and Greenlee weighs 12 lbs. All of these little babies are just as sweet as can be and right now are wondering /whats all going on. They are all nice and calm right now, but we're excited to see their "puppyness" come out.

We are absolutely unsure of the breeding of the pups-possibly lab (in the case of Matthew and Greenlee), possibly shepard or chow (in the case of Donovan and Aiden) but those are just what we think by looking at them. We are unsure of how big these guys will get, but we advise adopters plan on having a big adult dog in your house.

The puppies will require homes that have the patience for a puppy and families that have the time to devote to training them and socializing them and being there for them in their puppy stage. The puppies will need housetraining, people and animal socialization and guidance to allow them to blossom into the best possible companions.

Donovan, Aiden, Matthew and Greenlee's time is very limited, so please do not wait-contact Melissa today , at [email protected] or 319-415-1270. The puppies will have their appropriate puppy shots for their age and will require going back to our vets for addt'l shots. Also, a spay/neuter contract will be enforced, so THE PUPPIES MUST STAY IN THE CEDAR RAPIDS/JONES COUNTY AREA.

The first step to AWF's adoption process is to fill out an Adoption Application.
To download our adoption application, please click here. Completed applications can be sent as an attachment to [email protected] or faxed to 319-393-0056.

The adoption fee is on a sliding scale; $175 to $250. You decide the amount that is right for you to give. We have an all volunteer staff so your entire fee goes towards saving AWF's rescue animals. If your donation covers the puppys medical costs, then the remainder of your donation will go towards helping save another homeless pet!

All dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed and tested for heartworm to ensure they are negative .

No adoptions outside of an approx. 50-mile radius of Jones County/Cedar Rapids/Iowa City/Waterloo. In some instances, we are able to make an adoption outside of the radius work (but this varies on a case by case basis and may depend on where you live). The limited radius is due to a mandatory home visit needing to be done at the adoptive home by a rescue volunteer.

Breed Disclosure: Due to the fact that most of our adoptable pets are strays, we can not guarantee their breed. We list the pet’s breed as the one that best matches the physical appearance, temperament, and personality of the animal. The pet may also be listed as a mix when it’s actually a purebred.
