Look at that face! She’s smiling! Her picture does not do her justice. Dixie is absolutely precious and adorable! She is a Hurricane Katrina survivor. She was found scrounging for food in St. Bernard Parish. She is a young girl, probably only a year old and weighs about 30#. She is just so petite, which adds to her total cuteness!

Dixie just loves to be cuddled. Just give her a lap and she is in heaven! If no lap is available, a cozy chair will do, too!

She loves to play with other dogs and just ignores the cats. She’s bound to be just great with children, too. She is a very gentle, sensitive soul. She is crate trained and housetrained. We are working on her Basic training, she already knows SIT and COMEs pretty well. DIxie really likes to be outside, amusing herself with large stuffed toys and sticks. She thinks the top step of the porch was made just for her--she collects her toys and stretches out in the sun!

Like 80% of the dogs in New Orleans, she had heartworm disease and has been treated.

Whoever is lucky enough to adopt Dixie is getting a real gem!

This dog's adoption fee is $265 (plus tax). This includes being spayed, current on Rabies, Distemper, and Bordetella vaccinations, wormed, microchipped with the HomeAgain microchip, heartworm tested and treated, and medicated during the heartworm season (May-Dec) while in our care, comes with a Gentle Leader headcollar (if we feel it is needed), and is currently learning Basic Obedience commands and good doggie manners.
