Meet Dixie Belle!
Meet Dixie Belle, a super adorable 9-year-old English Bulldog mix! This smush face marshmallow has a shy, yet loving and laid-back personality. She makes everyone fall in love with her instantly with her sad puppy eyes and precious underbite that slightly shows her tongue 90% of the time.
We first met Dixie in 2021 when her original people said they needed to surrender her because she started guarding her food from the other animals in the home and finally ended up in an altercation. We were disappointed to find out that she had been extremely overbred, but relieved to be able to help her. She was quickly adopted, and flourished in her new home, but has recently been returned to us through no fault of her own after 3 years with her new family. Her owner is having to move and cannot take Dixie with her. Now, at 9 years old, she is starting over and leaving behind everything she knows to be "home" and "safety".
Since coming back to us, Dixie has been totally shut down and depressed. She has not eaten since Sunday and is very overwhelmed. Her sweet and docile personality has disappeared and we are desperate to find her a foster or adopter where she can decompress and begin to heal. She will be someone's best friend and companion; perfect for the laid back person or family that really enjoys a quiet companion that they can spoil with love and attention. Is Dixie waiting for you? If she sounds like she could be agood fit for your home, please fill out a foster or adoption application at rarerescue.org!

We understand that it is important to you to find the right fit for your family. We feel the same way! The DOG ADOPTION INTEREST FORM is important and REQUIRED for this reason.
All of our Adoptables are:
Spayed/neutered; Up to date on vaccines; Heartworm tested if six months or older (& kept on heartworm preventative and treated for heartworms if positive when entering our program): Microchipped prior to adoption
BREEDS: We are not breed experts. The breed(s) listed for each adoptable are best guesses or suggestions.
PLEASE NOTE: We are a non-profit organization without municipal or government funding. Veterinary/Medical expenses are constant for an animal rescue. Our adoption fees not only help to provide vetting and care for the animal being adopted, but they also help to cover heartworm treatments and other treatable ailments that many animals, that would otherwise be euthanized, need in order to be made available for adoption.
Please understand that adopting an animal is a LIFETIME COMMITMENT to that animal and there will be veterinary expenses throughout their life that can often cost several hundreds, if not thousands of dollars (without pet insurance), especially without annual checkups and preventative care. As a potential family for this pet you are responsible for their safety and that includes keeping them on your property.
***If you are not in the middle Tennessee area, transport can potentially be arranged to approved homes, depending on distance and local adaptability. We normally do not allow adoptions outside of 1.5 hours driving distance.
