Dixie was pulled from our local animal control agency. She was surrendered by an older couple in Feb. 2024 who couldn't manage her exercise needs.
With a guesstimated birthday in July 2022, Dixie weighed 53 lb at her vet exam in July 2024.
Dixie is a sweet, affectionate girl. She enjoys polite dogs and playing. When provided sufficient exercise, she knows how to calm down after a play session. She walks well on a leash, but will pull to get to exciting things.
Dixie keeps a clean kennel and is a favorite. She greets her shelter friends with a wag and a smile.
Dixie is hesitant in new situations, which includes going places and riding in the car. With time and confidence in her handler, she'll overcome these concerns in order to be wherever her peeps are :)

Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.
If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.
A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership if the dog is intact. Requirement is a vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and kept on heartworm prevention. Other rescues or your local government-run animal control agency may have different adoption requirements.
Adoption fee covers two vaccinations and deworming if recommended by our vet. Adult dogs will have current heartworm test. Additional fees for refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.
We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies. Available BAS animals can be seen most Saturdays at our Bunch Anderson Shelter (BAS) in Lenoir from noon to 3:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is FoothillsCanineRescue.org.
