My Story

UPDATE: Diezel's adoption fee is WAIVED and, thanks to a grant from 15/10.org, his allergy medication is covered for 2 years! Diezel, our 39 pound 2 year old mix, is a summer fanatic. To be fair, we've only known Diezel in the summer, so it's possible he's a fan of all seasons. However, witnessing Diezel happily curl up in camp chairs, chase butterflies and eat fresh berries makes us think that THIS is his season. What better time to find this loving dog a home? We took in Diezel after he'd been found stray. The shelter reported that his ears were in terrible shape and Diezel was in chronic pain. Despite this, Diezel did his best to be cheery- constantly asking for pets and trying to play with other dogs. We got Diezel in right away for surgery to relieve the pain (thank you to the 15/10 foundation for covering his care!). This means, though, that Diezel had to have his ear canals removed. Diezel's ears were so scarred and infected that we could not get them healthy again. Although now comfortable, not having ear canals means Diezel is mostly deaf. He also sustained some damage to a nerve on his left side, so Diezel needs eye lubricant as he doesn't blink well. We have Diezel on a medication called Apoquel to control the allergies that lead to his chronic infection in the first place. He may need to be on this long term, and if so, IT'S COVERED. Diezel wakes up with his tail thumping every day. Perfectly potty trained, he likes to reward himself by picking a Marionberry off the bush after doing his business. Diezel is nearly perfect on a leash and is very friendly. He loves other dogs and is indifferent to wildlife (except for insects; he'll follow a bug anywhere). If there isn't a camp chair to sleep in, Diezel is happy to curl up in a cardboard box...especially if he has an eye mask to help shut off the world. Diezel is playful and gentle, but likes to wrestle with his mouth, so we recommend kids over 8. We don't know about Diezel with cats. Diezel is heartworm negative, microchipped and current on his flea and heartworm preventatives. Look, you weren't really going to bake a pie with all those berries. Let Diezel help take them off your hands. Apply to adopt at www.stumptownstrays.org.
