My Story

*This pets adoption fee has been sponsored, meaning there is no cost to adopt him from us!* Behold…. The BESTEST BOY and GOOFIEST shepherd you will ever lay your eyes on. His friends call him “Diego”! Our vet calls him “Dee-ah-Go” Volunteers call him “the handsomest boy on the planet” And our director (who is his primary handler) refers to him as “The chicken killer”, “The fluffy nut job”, “Mr.Sassy-Pants” and “DIEGOOOOO CUT IT OUT!” (He LOVVEES to test her limits… but means no harm and sincerely loves to misbehave in her presence.) Diego has a huge personality, and makes sure everyone knows it. His best friend here is Honey the husky. They are two peas in a pod. We jokingly refer to them as the “old married couple” here because they will literally bicker, and play fight, and drive eachother nuts, but they absolutely adore eachother, and would probably be lost on their own. (They don’t HAVE to be adopted together… but… it would be awesome!) Diego absolutely can not go to a home with small critters such as chickens, cats, hamsters, Guinea pigs, etc. He has no self control…. he’s not vicious, he honestly just wants to play with them and doesn’t understand the limits. Diego LOVES all humans. Infact, if you are chosen as his “favorite” human, he will reward you by talking back to every word that you speak to him. We do think he may understand English AND Spanish. He also will play with every object that is movable. His metal bowls, the chain on the wall holding his outdoor run door open, the raised dog bed in his kennel, the chain link recoil when he strikes it with his paw…. This dog is fascinated by everything and very easy to entertain. Diego would do best in a home with a fenced in yard, and 6ft fencing is recommended. Diego came to us as a Texas street stray. During his first encounter with our director he proceeded to play “tag” while dragging a heavy metal chain that was attached to his collar in the middle of the road! He had clearly escaped some sort of terrible living conditions and was then running loose… a local fruit stand owner said he had been running around like that for over a week. So our director played his little game, and chased him for almost an hour trying to capture this naughty shepherd. Diego would get close, “talk back” and then scurry around a car. Then come back, take a treat, ALMOST allow a leash to go around his neck, and then talk back some more as if to say “Haha you can’t catch me!”, and then run off again. Just as our director was giving up… Diego decided that he DID actually want the help, and jumped into the rescue van without anyones help. He is fixed, up to date on vaccines, dewormed, heartworm treated and negative, and started on preventatives. He is also microchipped. To inquire about adopting Diego, please email, message, call or text us! You may also follow the prompts through petfinder to fill out one of our applications. An application, pictures of your yard/home, and meet and greet are required for every adoption through our organization,
