My Story

Dewey is a silly, funny, affectionate, one of a kind doggo. We believe Dewey has congenital cerebellar hypoplasia, which essentially means that his brain doesn’t function quite like other dogs. He has an odd gait, like all 4 legs function somewhat independently. This is exaggerated when he runs and looks like a new born giraffe trying to walk. Dewey has no idea he’s different and he is the happiest dog you’ll ever find! We do not believe that Dewey’s condition is progressive. Who he is today is who he is gonna be :). If you are a person who likes to move in circles Dewey will follow you around. Dewey loves all people and dogs. His condition makes it hard for him to read other dogs or understand what a snarl or little growl might mean, so some dogs find him to be too much. He also has a play growl that sounds vicious and he plays rough, but Dewey doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He will need a patient dog friend. His humans will need to understand that he doesn’t learn the same as most dogs. He’s about 90% potty trained but might never get to 100%. He doesn’t respond well to verbal corrections. He needs to be shown very clearly what humans expect of him. Dewey is definitely more work than the average dog but he is so very worth it. You will not meet a happier, better natured dog anywhere! If Dewey sounds like the pup for you, fill out an adoption application at sketchymuttsandunderdogs.org!
