Derby

Derby is a spayed 5yr Bulldog that needs lots of special attention and will give you lots of wet kisses in return. Derby has a Portal Systemic Liver Shunt which means that her liver does not purify the toxins that goes through her body. She must eat No Proteins at all and eats U/D dog food only! She loves Ice Cubes and thinks that they are a special treat. With her food each day she gets a teaspoon of Lactulos syrup that helps her liver. The lactulos costs about $15 and lasts more than 2 months. If she stays on her diet she does very well and has no problems. She had labs done over the summer and everything was fine. Derby had eye surgery when she was little and a scratched cornea so now has to have eye ointments put in her eye 2 x a day. These are purchased over the counter. Her vision is a little "fuzzy" but she does well. Derby MUST be the ONLY animal in the house. She lives now with 2 dogs but does not tolerate them very well. I think Derby gets cranky because she doesnt feel good like the other dogs. Derby loves to be loved and will give kisses and sit by your side...she loves to be invited into your "big bed" and sleep by your side. Derby is on Heartworm preventative, flea treatment and is spayed. She is housebroken, will not have mishaps in the house, she loves to sleep in her crate but if left in there longer than SHE wants to will pee pee in it. Derby is slow moving and not very active.....her biggest joy is sleeping at your feet and getting belly rubs....she loves her Budda Bone and just likes to take life easy...She would most likely do better in a home without young children only because of her medical problems and needing special attention...she loves to have her wrinkles cleaned as well... Please help us find her a good home....her current owners took her from her owner when she was getting married 3 years ago and could not take her. Unfortunatly one of them was in a car accident and has trouble walking and bending but love Derby enough to know that she needs a new home! Due to us being a not for profit rescue group we adopt our fosters within an hours driving distance from the Matthews, NC area. Sorry but we are not able to travel any further distances and we do not ship out animals.
