My Story

Here comes DAX!! Approximately 2 years old. Location: Coweta Belgian Malinois Remember our feral malinois that had to be trapped? This one was tough, my first feral dog ever and a Malinios at that! This took us a while but we did it. We had nowhere for him to go so we took him to boarding to "decompress" The first time to the vet was traumatic for everyone, it took us a long time but we got him loaded into a crate. The vet had to do his exam with him in the crate, giving him an injection to sedate him to they could take xrays of his foot and give vaccines etc. After months in boarding, he never once lunged or bit any of us, he would always just give us a low grownll as to warn us that we made him uncomfortable. Everytime he would see dogs running in the yard we would see his tail wagging! That shocked us! He never showed emotion. We would go out there and work with him on a long line, he wanted nothing to do with it but hide at the first chance he could. Slowly it started to pay off, what took us 45 minutes to just get him out of his kennel starting taking less and less time. He was then ready to go to a trainer to see how he would do. It was rough at first but she knew just how to handle it! He would never eat in front of anyone, ever. He slowly began walking on a leash with her pack and acting more like a dog! We were so excited!! Dax had an old fracture in his left heel that he takes medication for but it does not need to be amputated, he gets along fine on it. No marathons for this guy but he can definitely run and go hiking, you just have to be mindful and watch his cues if he is hurting. Fast forward to today.... here is his bio from his foster family Dax is a king snuggler, head turner, and in true malinois fashion very vocal about his needs and wants. Dax loves to play keep away from his foster brothers, loves to go for walks, zoom around the backyard, and deconstruct any stuffed animal he can get his paws on. Dax is a very sweet boy and loves attention but was a once feral dog and still has a ways to go. He may never be a "normal dog and still has things that make him stressed and anxious. Once he learns to trust his family and that he's safe he will adjust quickly and relax a bit but his family will need a tremendous amount of patience and understanding. Dax adores other dogs and needs to be in a home with another dog who wants to play and will help him adjust to domesticated dog life as best as possible. Dax cannot be around cats, chickens, etc. and should not be in a home with young kids. Dax is a very active dog and just running around the backyard will not be enough for him. He needs a family who will keep him and his brain active and would be a fantastic candidate for dog training.
