My Story

While 100 pounds may seem like a lot for most dogs, when poor Daisy came into our care at that weight it was clear she was still underweight, malnourished, and greatly in need of consistent care and love. Her previous owner was charged with animal cruelty and signed her over so staff was immediately able to start getting her the care and medical attention she needed. Staff and volunteers went right to work in not only taking care of her medical needs but also offering her love and attention. Understandably, Daisy can seem uncomfortable meeting some new people, and may be more afraid of men than women, but with some patience and treats she is quick to warm up, and when she does she leans into people for attention. One of her favorite volunteers had this to say about her: "This girl is such a sweetheart! When we are in the playyard she ways to be right next to me- velcro for sure! She loves belly rubs, anything that involves petting her and touching her." Though she is doing a great job coming out of her shell, Daisy can still be nervous and flinch with fast movements and would likely be best suited for a quieter home or someone with Dane experience. Daisy was introduced to a few dogs at the shelter while on leash and did well with everyone. She did not seem interested in playing, but was willing to walk around, sniff them, and share her space with them without any issues. Daisy is current on shots, licensed, and microchipped. All dogs over 6 months have been heartworm tested, and all dogs are treated monthly for fleas/ticks and are on Heartworm prevention (NexGard PLUS). All pets are spayed/neutered prior to a finalized adoption. All our dogs receive a behavior assessment before being placed for adoption to determine initial behaviors towards people and other dogs in the shelter environment. If you have questions about an animal please have their name and ID number ready and contact shelter staff by: (1) visiting Animal Friends during our open hours, (2) calling 513-867-5727, or (3) emailing [email protected]. WE HAVE MORE PETS IN THE SHELTER THAT ARE NOT ON PETFINDER.
