My Story
Pug Rescue of New England (PRoNE) is a non-profit 501(c)(3), all volunteer foster home based rescue organization.
Meet DAISY!
Daisy is a 12-year-old lady who came into rescue when her owner could no longer care for her. Don't let this spicy senior fool you Daisy has tons of love and spunk to hand out. Daisy is great with other dogs, large and small, and currently resides with her foster mom and four foster siblings who range from 14-70 lbs. Daisy has not been cat tested but based on her behavior, she would most likely see any kitty as a playmate.
Daisy is house-trained and walks well on a leash. She also loves to romp in her foster mom's fenced yard. A fenced yard is not a requirement for Daisy, however without a fence, multiple short walks a day are a must. She is currently getting 2-3 walks a day, about 15-20 minutes each. Daisy also travels well in the car. She will curl right up and be your passenger princess and would make a great travel companion.
Coming into rescue as a senior can sometimes be difficult, but Daisy has proved to adapt quickly. She is quiet and reserved for about a week, but then her real personality begins to show. Daisy is always down for a cuddle and a nap, but she also still has plenty of energy. Daisy would do well as an only dog with a family that will give her lots of attention and stimulation and she would also do well with a non-dominant, playful companion dog.
Daisy still has great mobility and will "bunny hop" up and down stairs. She can also get on and off furniture with ease. She will jump if allowed, but a nice set of doggy stairs is her preferred method for getting on and off the couch. And no crate for this frosty faced lady. Daisy very much prefers to be cuddled up in bed next to her person at night and made this very clear with her foster mom from night one and hasn't left the bed since.
With all those amazing qualities, Daisy does have some behavioral quirks which her future family need to be aware of. Daisy has boundaries involving her face, feet and food. She is not a fan of having her face or her feet touched. Her foster mom has started bringing her to the groomer on a regular basis to have her wrinkles cleaned and get her nails to a more comfortable length. She seems to be acclimating to the groomers and always comes back fresh faced and happy. Aside from making her humans the center of her world, food takes a close second. Respecting the space around her food bowl is important. No resource guarding other than this. If there are multiple pets in the home, please feed Daisy separately. Due to these boundaries, Daisy would do best in a home with older children (12+ or no children) who can understand and respect her wishes.
Daisy has not shown any signs of separation anxiety. While she would love her family to be home more often than not, her foster mom has left her alone for up to six hours and she snoozes while left alone. Overall, Daisy is the picture-perfect Pug looking for a loving family to live out her golden years.
