My Story

Conner came into rescue from the inside of a car. Yes, he was reportedly dumped from a car window in a rural area close to a quick shop/service station. It is unimaginable that a little guy as sweet and loving as he is could be treated in this way.

Conner is estimated by the vet and groomer to be around 1 year of age, or just less than that. At 19 pounds, he is a big boy for a Shih Tzu. He is doing well with his potty training, but was not neutered when he came in to rescue, so he has had some slight marking issues that have improved greatly in the week he has been in rescue. He is getting great training from the pack of four foster siblings he has come to live with. He does his "business" outdoors when he goes out with his pack. He is a smart boy and learns quickly. They are teaching him well.

Conner is completely crate trained and is very willing to spend his nights there, and also has no problem going to his crate when his new found humans leave for work. When out of his crate, he will stick like glue to his human companions. And--fair warning--cover your ear lobes or they will get licked off! Conner's coat was a matted mess, so there was no choice but to shave him down and let him start over. But, he has a beautiful gold and white coat with dark tipped ears. He is going to be a VERY handsome boy.

Conner is one of the most affectionate little guys this foster dad has ever seen. He may bark at a newcomer, but he will be in their face and lap within a few minutes making friends with whomever he encounters. He is going to make someone a wonderful long term companion.

He is neutered, current on shots, microchipped and heartworm negative.

Due to having treated several heartworm positive dogs recently, we DO require past proof of h/w tests & preventative given if you own a dog. We do NOT consider it proof if you have just had the h/w test done or bought preventative for the first time prior to or after putting in an application.

Out of the Area? We will gladly do a "long distance" adoption, however we do not ship our dogs. We expect you to come and pick up your dog. As all our dogs are in foster homes in different places, that would mean you would need to travel to the foster home to pick up the dog (not necessarily in St Louis). Family members or friends are not allowed to pick up the dog unless the adopter is with them. We will not consider an adoption out of area without a vet and groomer reference.

We do not place dogs in homes with toddlers and babies. Please read the shelter home page for placement restrictions prior to submitting an application. Our group does have a policy of only placing dogs in homes where all pets are spayed or neutered.

Our Adoption fees are based on the age of the dog and range from $350 to $200 each, and are used to pay the vet expenses. All dogs are up to date on shots, heartworm negative, spayed or neutered and any known problems are treated before they can be adopted. Last year our vet bills were $3000. higher than our adoption fees, so we are not able to adopt dogs without an adoption fee.
