My Story
FEBRUARY 7, 2997 UPDATE: Comet’s foster mom wrote in with an update and a couple of new pictures: Comet has been the active fellow these last few weeks. I have noticed some things about him. I try to put him with his blind eye towards the team, but he prefers to have the bad eye trail side. Comet will run lead and knows directions, but he is a much happier swing dog. It is nice to have him there. When I give a command the Leaders and the Swing dogs take it. He will run anywhere in the team and really seems to enjoy wheel with Shasta, well anytime he is near my Shasta he is happy!
Comet ran in the Junior Races last week end with another SCL dog, Junior, and they performed wonderful. Comet will also run the 1-dog class, but only at a trot (which would be GREAT for anyone with a younger child getting started in racing). He gets along with everyone in the dog yard and is one of the easiest dogs to harness and get to the picket line.
Comet is heat sensitive! He poops out pretty quick in the upper 20's on a 6 mile run. This Fall he would pace after about 3 miles when the temps were a bit warmer. The colder it is, the better he works and for longer periods.
Comet is such a good dog for many reasons. He is a wonderful asset to my recreational fun, and he is house broken and well behaved both indoors and out. An easy keeper good with children and other dogs.
APRIL 27, 2005: UPDATE
Comet is a 4 year old nuetered male that was surrendered to the Fairbanks shelter by a musher who wanted to reduce his kennel. Comet is about 55lbs with a good, typical husky build and a nice coat. Comet has a cataract in his right eye, but it doesn't seem to bother him. He is good with kids and dogs, unknown with cats. He's a happy, friendly, energetic dog with that classic 'woo-woo' call when he gets excited. He has a good appetite, drinks well, and loves his treats. He can be let loose in the dogyard, doesn't wander off, and comes when called. This spring he has been running as a team/wheel dog up to 12 miles and does well. He has a nice gait, is fairly easy to handle, and gets along well with his teammates. He occassionally gets distracted, but doesn't cause any problems.

Comet is a trained sled dog. He went mushing for 5 miles with our volunteers on February 12th:
"Comet did very well on his run. He is focused and also ran lead for a part of the run. He has a nice gait, is fairly easy to handle, and is good with other dogs (though a bit nosey), but is very focused when running. Comet is about 50-55lbs and has a good typical husky build. This guy would be good for a rec or distance type team. Comet does have a cataract in one eye but seemed to be able to see fine, and had no trouble with it today."
