My Story

UPDATE: WE ARE SO SORRY TO SAY THAT OUR CHUCKY HAS PASSED AWAY. HE HAD AN SUDDEN STROKE AND PASSED QUICKLY WHILE IN THE LOVING CARE OF HIS NEW FAMILY. HE HAD SO MANY PEOPLE WHO LOVED HIM. HE PASSED A HAPPY, WELL CARED FOR AND TRULY LOVED FRIEND.

Chucky is a well behaved 9-year old boy looking for his final forever home. He was rescued 5 years ago by a woman and her husband and spent the past several years with another rescue bullie. His current owner is undergoing medical treatments and has just gone through a divorce and finds herself in the terrible position of asking us to find Chucky a new home. He has clearly been well taken care of and will make his next family so happy!

Because this is at least his 3rd home, we will only consider families that are willing to stick-it-out with Chucky for the rest of his life. He deserves stability. In return, you will find an adorable bullie with great manners and a laid back attitude!

Chucky is a sweet, low maintenance boy with a good disposition and funny ways about him. He is really healthy at 9 years old and 70 pounds (he could stand to lose a few) and is up to date on shots, neutered and completely housetrained. Wow!

Chucky gets along with other pets - as long as they are close to his age. He probably wouldn't appreciate a younger, more active dog -- although this guy can certainly play! He loves his food (except lettuce) and can be possessive and rambunctious over his food bowl, treats and bones. This behavior will have to be monitored and should be top of mind when human and other dogs are present. As long as you are aware of it and are careful to make him sit for treats, and sit before meals, this is totally workable.

Change is going to be tough for Chucky. He is used to sleeping in bed with his mom, playing with ropes and stuffed toys, and going on car rides. He walks well on leash but when another dog approaches, may lunge (a little leash anxiety). This can be modified with training. Chucky will also try to hump newcomers to the house, but this can be controlled with a simple and firm “off.” In addition, Chucky needs a home with a limited number of stairs. He will occasionally experience pain in his hip and stairs aggrevate the condition.

Chucky knows his obedience commands including “sit, stay, down and bedtime!” He is not used to being crated and is perfectly reliable in the house! Chucky is a gem!

If you think Chucky would be a perfect fit in your home and if you fit the below criteria, please first fill out an adoption application:

**Accepting of an older dog
**Willing to work with (and are aware of) his possessiveness over food and treats
**Have limited number of stairs
**Live in the Chicago-area

His adoption donation fee is set at $125.
