My Story

Update on Chipp and Tripp --- please see below for more info!

Chipp weighs appx 65 to 70 pounds as of 8/19/07. He is the smallest of the two. Tripp weighs almost 85 to 90 pounds! His feet are huge! . They entered the shelter on 04/18/2007, Tripp weighing about 35 pounds at 3 months and Chipp weighing about 25 pounds at 3 months. They are now at 8 months . I feel like Tripp will reach 100 pounds. I don't think Chipp will. They are big, sweet puppies who just need a shot at a good life. THey have been waiting soooo long -- please consider adding one of these love bug to your life!

Update 7/29 from Chipp and Tripp's foster: Chipp and Tripp are big, sweet puppies! They are typical high-energy lab mix puppies. Tripp is the larger of the two and is more active in playing with me: fetching. He seems to be the leader with Chipp following along. Chipp is very loving. Tripp has taken it upon himself to find the "mole" in my backyard.....he has the scent and is on the hunt. They are so funny just watching their antics. My two grandsons are away at this time but they get along very well the "boys". The youngest grandson is going on 9 yrs. old and he loves to help feed them and play with them. Tripp I said loves to fetch....Chipp doesn't - so if Chipp gets the ball first he will hide it in the bushes so I won't play with Tripp! They would love a big yard maybe even in the country so they could feel a little freedom from my small fenced in yard. They are adorable and very loving.

06/23/2007 Tripp and his brother Chipp are lab mixes and are getting on the urgent list at the shelter. We do not want them to grow up at the shelter. They are great dogs, very playful, and just love people!

They are great dogs, they are BIG and very very lovable and playful. No aggression in either dog. These dogs would make a great farm dog, country dog, or for someone that has a big back yard. They also love their swimming pool!!!!!!!!!!

Chipp weighs appx 40 pounds and is around 6 months old. UPDATE: Chipp had a bath today and did really well. He is alot smaller than his brother Tripp. Chipp is more Lab mix than anything with the short ears and big web feet. He is a very sweet dog and is non aggressive and just loves to play. Chipp and his brother, Tripp were surrendered to the shelter on 04/18/2007.

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning "pending adoption".

If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

FOR PUPPIES: HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.

CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.

SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.

SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO ALOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.

HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS ALOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVILENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.

PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $250.00 for altered dogs. $350. for unaltered puppies, with $100 refundable after spay/neuter. All Senior dogs 6 years or older have a reduced adoption fee of $200. This includes vaccinations, spay/neuter and transport from Arkansas to Maine on a USDA approved transport with a Health Certificate. All dogs are quarantined 14 days prior to leaving Arkansas. All dogs will be tested for Heartworm prior to adoption. Almost Home Rescue will process your adoption.
