Chili

Chili is a 2-3 year old Spaniel-Sheltie mix who needs an experienced dog loving family. She came into our rescue with a litter of puppies from the shelter. She did wonderfully in her foster home and was an absolute love. She got along with the other dogs, with cats and with the kids. Unfortunately she was then placed in an inexperienced home who allowed some habits to develop and now she's back with us and we're working on making her a wonderful little girl again! 

Chili does very well with an owner that is firm and confident and consistent. If allowed, she'd race to the door and won't let strangers in the door. Instead, her foster home requires that she sit at least 12 ft. from the door and she's not allowed to greet anyone until she is completely calm. Now, folks come in and she's a perfect little lady. She came back to us lunging on a leash at other dogs, people. She is no longer allowed to do this and with a confident dog owner on the leash, she walks perfectly fine and doesn't lunge, doesn't bark and is good on the leash. If you are a Ceasar Milan fan you'll recognize all of this as being part of a pact leader which is what Chili needs.

Chili is crate trained, doggy door trained and previously was housetrained (had not had an accident as long as she was taken out consistently). Housetraining is never something our rescue guarantees. Chili came back to us pudgy and over-weight. She's been on a dry food only diet and is taking off the weight quickly and feeling and looking much better! Chili loves to play and does well at the dog park. She needs an outlet for her energy which makes her a good candidate for the dog park, doggie day camp or just playing fetch out in the yard. She will require something more than a walk though as she wants to run and play.
