Chewy - Adopted

Chewy is very new to us..we'll post more as we learn about him.Arrival story: Chewy has a very sad beginning. He was given up by his first owner and taken in by a neighbor who was supposed to be looking out for his best interest. Instead, the neighbor tied him to a crumbling dog house without food or water - and just feet from a pen where the owner's other dogs had access to straw (to sleep on) and food/water. When the local Animal Control officer showed up to check out the property, the owner claimed he was too sick to walk the extra 10 feet to feed Chewy. The AC officer told the owner he'd be back for Chewy in the morning and a plea was sent out to area rescues to take in poor Chewy.

Waggin' Tails had a volunteer up to pick him up the very next morning but there was no Chewy. The owner claimed he had gotten loose and ran away but we suspected that the owner knew he'd be in trouble if the AC officer came back and we think he drove Chewy to another location and left him.

We had our volunteers out looking for him for an entire day but could not find him. Thankfully, the AC officer went back to the home a few days after and Chewy was laying in the back yard - having obviously found his way back to the only place he knew as home.

Approximate age: 1 Year Old & approximately 48 lbs. Chewy will need to gain at least another 15-20 lbs to be at a healthy weight.

Personality:He is very new to us and currently at a kennel until a foster home can open up. So far though, he seems to be a good and friendly boy.

Forever home:TBD but someone who will take care of him for the rest of his life so that he never has to know hardship and neglect ever again!

Waggin' Tails Adoption Information: Waggin' Tails Dog Rescue has a standard adoption fee of $175, or $200 for puppies plus a $50 deposit which is returned upon proof of spay/neuter at six months of age. Our adoption process includes an application, vet reference checks, and a home visit.

We do not have a facility; all of our dogs are fostered in private homes. To view our dogs, please check

With few exceptions, we show our adoptable animals on Saturdays from 12pm - 3pm at Petco in Novi (on Novi Rd south of 12 mile) or PetSmart in Canton (the northwest corner of Ford Rd and Haggerty Rd). Arrangements can be made to meet our rescue dogs outside of Saturday adoption events after an approved application is submitted (the application does not imply an obligation by the applicant or by the rescue group).
