Here is Chaucer's story from the caring animal control officer who rescued him.....
Hi! I've had the pleasure of caring for Chaucer for the past several weeks. He and his friend(a young male lab mix) were one of many calls that I went on this winter. Same old story...no shelter, food, or water. All too common around here. As the shelter manager I wanted to take the dogs. However, the animal control officer (who works through the Police Dept.) thought it better to help the owners and give them a chance. We took new dog houses over and gave them plenty of food. We talked to the owners and I wrongly assumed that all was ok. The animal control officer went back over about a month ago and things were much worse!! Not only was there no food or water, but they had been chained out on choke chains that had rubbed all of the hair off of their necks and rubbed the skin raw. Chaucer was incredibly thin. His coat still is very brittle due to lack of good nutrition. His friend had to be euthanized due to his condition. I decided Chaucer would be helped no matter what. He is the most loving guy. If I stood by him, he would rest his head on my feet or lean on me. He is very forgiving of humans considering how he was treated by them. It broke my heart to think that not one person was coming into our shelter and seeing what an amazing boy he is. No one wanted him. Thank you so much for giving him the chance that he so deserves!!
Well we saw what an amazing guy he is and he is now looking for a new home through our program. He loves to play with other dogs, but he would be perfectly happy to walk, play, and go for car rides with a human. He does have a bit of separation anxiety and he would be best in a home where someone is not gone a full workday. He is only about a year old and thought to be a German Shepherd mix with a bit of a wiry coat and is about 45 pounds. He has been very gentle, sweet and affectionate with anyone he has come in contact with. For more information email Pam at [email protected]|
Chaucer can't wait to go for a walk wearing his great new collar and leash, and sends thanks to Cheryl Myszka and Scott Geyso for donating them through the Dober Duds program "in honor of Abbie"
